MANHEIM, Pa. — Eight South Dakota State wrestling student-athletes have been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as recipients of an NCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-America Award.
SDSU's honorees included:
Bennett Berge, R-Jr., Mantorville, Minn.
Marcus Espinoza-Owens, R-So., Woods Cross, Utah
Brock Fettig, R-Jr., Bismarck, N.D.
Luke Rasmussen, R-Jr., Brookings, S.D.
Brady Roark, R-So., Seneca, Mo.
Cale Seaton, R-Fr., Iowa City, Iowa
Cael Swensen, R-Jr., Plymouth, Minn
Jared Thiry, R-So., Waterloo, Iowa
These exceptional student-athletes have excelled both on the mat and in the classroom, meeting one of the following criteria*:
- Top 8 and 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and 3.2 GPA
- Conference qualifier and 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with a 60% win record and a 3.5 GPA
*All nominees are determined by the academic records returned and the results in TrackWrestling.
Berge, Rasmussen, and Swensen were honored as NWCA Scholar All-Americans for the third time in their respective careers, while
Brock Fettig earned his second Scholar All-American honor this season. Thiry, Seaton, Roark and Espinoza-Owens all earned the prestigious honor for the first time in their SDSU Wrestling careers.
