KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Dakota State softball fell in its final game of its Summit League series at Kansas City on Friday, April 3, by a 4-2 score. The Roos completed a three-games sweep over the Jackrabbits as they improved to 12-20 overall and 3-6 in the conference standings.Â
Â
SDSU sophomore
Amanda Vacanti gave up one run to the Kansas City lineup in the first inning, but battled in the circle for the remainder of the game. She'd throw a complete game for the Jackrabbits allowing two runs in the fourth and one in the seventh. Vacanti allowed four runs on seven hits. She walked eight and struck out two batters.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits took a 2-1 lead in the second inning. A two-run single by
Bria Riebel plated
Emma Christensen and
Quinn Marnocha as SDSU held a lead until Kansas City's two-run top of the fourth.Â
Â
South Dakota State mounted a final rally in the seventh inning. Christensen reached base on a fielding error to lead off, then a Riebel single put two runners on base with no outs. The Jacks had the bases loaded with no outs, but a fly out and strikeout put an end to the game and series in Kansas City.Â
Â
SDSU had seven hits in the contest led by Riebel's three.
Abby Gentry produced two hits while Barnard and Christensen contributed with one each.
