First Bank & Trust Arena officially opened in the fall of 2024 following a renovation and expansion project to the former Frost Arena. The facility serves as the home competition venue for Jackrabbit basketball, volleyball and wrestling.
First Bank & Trust Arena features a number of premium seating options, including suites, loge boxes, the Midco Club and the Dakota Layers Deck. The Hefty Student Deck is a one-of-a-kind, student-centered space with a hospitality area and more than 1,000 seats designated for SDSU students.
State-of-the-art video boards, a new sound system, a more spacious concourse and improved restrooms enhance the fan experience. The renovated arena also includes new locker rooms, team spaces and coaching offices along with a new athletic training room and equipment room to service student-athletes.
The South Dakota State volleyball program hosted First Bank & Trust Arena’s inaugural event October 3, 2024, a match versus Kansas City. A program-record 2,853 fans witnessed a 3-0 Jackrabbit sweep over the defending Summit League regular season champions. Other notably attended events during the arena’s first year included the Jackrabbit women’s basketball team hosting No. 16 Duke with a season-high 4,582 fans in attendance, men’s basketball versus in-state rival South Dakota (4,764 fans) and wrestling versus Minnesota.
First Bank & Trust Arena replaces the Jackrabbits’ former home, Frost Arena. Frost was opened in 1973 and served as the site of memorable Jackrabbit moments through the 2023-24 athletic season. The facility underwent a two-year renovation and expansion project that was spearheaded by a $20 million commitment from Brookings-based First Bank & Trust.
