GREELEY, Colo.? Senior Mallory Onisk won five events as the South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team swept a triangular against Northern Iowa, 482-339, and against host Northern Colorado, 472-439, on Saturday.
Onisk won her first individual swim of the meet, taking the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.20. The Bear, Del., native also finished first in the 100 butterfly (59.82 sec), the 50 butterfly (27.20 sec), the 100 individual medley (1:02.91) and the 50 freestyle (25.27 sec).
Onisk was also a member of three relay teams that placed first; the 400 medley (4:04.85), the 200 medley (1:52.90) and the 200 freestyle team (1:41.72).
The Jacks had four other swimmers finish first, including Minnesota transfer Katie Budahl. The Mitchell native finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.92, just in front of teammate Emily Tschetter. Budahl would go on to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.56 and the 50 breaststroke in 32.14 sec., with Tschetter placing second both times.
Junior Sara Olenich from Norfolk, Neb., won the 50 freestyle for SDSU with a time of 25.42 sec.
Rachel Musser was the top placing Jackrabbit in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 55.80 sec, followed by freshman Ashley Valdez in second (55.93 sec
Jessica Ferley, a freshman from Rapid City, was the final Jackrabbit to win as she finished the 50 backstroke in 28.09 sec. The Jacks claimed eight of the top 10 spots in the 50 backstroke.
The Jacks (3-2) return to the pool on Thursday, Nov. 20 for the Husker Invitational. The action wraps up in Lincoln on Sunday, Nov. 23.
