SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The South Dakota State women's and men's swimming and diving teams each defeated Augustana on Saturday at the Midco Aquatic Center, completing two-day sweeps of the Vikings. The women won 155-71, and the men won 135-77.
The Jackrabbit women won both relays and eight of 10 individual events, while the men claimed six individual events and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Kailee Crane won the 100 freestyle (:54.24) and 200 freestyle (1:57.50), both personal bests. South Dakota State swept the top three spots in the 100 and 50 freestyles and went 1-2 in the 200 free and 400 individual medley.
Gigi Hioki won the 500 freestyle (5:12.47) and the 50 free in a season-best :24.78, and anchored the winning 400 medley relay (3:59.11) with Lucia Lopez, Sadie Rogers and Isabella Gnewuch. Bella Nordaker, Lily Esmas, Lucy Johansen and Hannah Miller won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.93.
Freshman Taylor Tabino took the 400 IM in 4:44.61, 0.33 seconds ahead of junior Emma Ingalls, who also won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.28). Gnewuch won the 100 butterfly in a season-best 59.35, and Lopez took the 100 backstroke (59.23). Mira Celtkci was second in the 500 free (5:21.17), and Lily Davis placed second in both diving events behind Augustana's Avery Lommel.
MEN'S RECAP
South Dakota State swept the top three spots in the 400 IM, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Augustana won the 400 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and both diving events.
Nik Keuser won the 100 breaststroke (:57.42) and 50 freestyle (:21.26), both season bests. Brookings native Cody Vertin captured the 400 IM in 4:08.54, followed by Luke Watkins and Owen Byrd. Watkins also won the 500 freestyle in a season-best 4:44.54, and SDSU took five of the top six spots.
Sophomore Landon Schemel won the 200 freestyle (1:45.85), with sophomores Austin Lewis and Conner Trinidad second and third. Zavier Kranz won the 100 freestyle (47.89), and freshman Drew Gundrum was second (48.49).
Colby Williams, Colt Frein, Keuser and Kranz won the 200 free relay in 1:25.72. Sophomore Roman Billings was second in both diving events, while Augustana's David Binsfeld won both.
