SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team claimed seven individual event titles in a 152-53 season-opening win over Augustana on Friday in Sioux Falls.
The Jackrabbits swept the top five spots in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200 individual medley, and took the top three in the 50 and 200 freestyle.
Junior Gigi Hioki led the way with wins in the 100 freestyle (:52.70) and 200 freestyle (1:54.24), both season-best times. Mira Celtikci was second in the 200 free (1:59.71) and fourth in the 100 free (:55.30), and Lucy Johansen placed third (2:01.11) and fifth (:55.32) in the same events.
Kailee Crane won the 200 IM in a season-best 2:10.75 and added a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke (2:09.42). Emma Ingalls took the 200 breaststroke (2:28.24) and placed third in the 200 IM (2:13.95). Taylor Tabino was first in the 200 butterfly (2:13.42) and second in the 200 IM (2:13.93). Lucia Lopez won the 200 backstroke in 2:06.53, with Crane and Lily Esmas finishing second and third for a Jackrabbit podium sweep.
In the 50 freestyle, Bella Nordaker led SDSU in a season-best :24.72, ahead of Hannah Miller (:25.17) and Esmas (:25.40). Nordaker also took third in the 100 free (:54.96), while Miller was second (:54.27).
Poppy Mead turned in a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:13.93) and was SDSU's top finisher in the 1,000 freestyle, placing third in 11:16.71.
In the diving well, Lily Davis placed second (204.68) and Annabelle Gifford third (199.80) on 1-meter.
