COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M shutout the South Dakota State English riders 8-0 and then downed the Jackrabbit Western riders 5-3 on Saturday to complete the head-to-head sweep by the final score of 13-3.
"Our veteran riders had some very strong performances throughout the weekend and the entire Western squad came through with one great ride after another," said SDSU head equestrian coach Megan McGee. "You can see from the scoresheet that the competition was very tight, with most Western scores being less than one point difference. That's a very positive step for our Western squad to compete so closely against the defending National Champions."
Kaylee Mundwiler carded a 72.5 to pick up the lone SDSU win in horsemanship, while Angela Gebhart and Lydia Placzek both scored 71.0 to earn wins for the Jackrabbits in reining.
After sweeping both English events by the score of 4-0, the Aggies won horsemanship 3-1 before tying the Jacks in reining 2-2.
The Jackrabbits English riders return to action on Sunday in Dallas, Texas against SMU, the SDSU Western riders return to competition on Dec. 5-6 in Crookston, Minn.
