DALLAS, Texas - A day after getting shutout by the defending national champion Texas A&M Aggies, the South Dakota State English riders put points on the board, but still came up short on Sunday in a 9-2 loss at Southern Methodist.
"Veterans Molly Ryan, Ashley Marrin, and Meredith Sauer each turned in very strong performances both yesterday against Texas A&M and today against SMU, putting some points on the board for the team each day in the English competitions," said SDSU head equestrian coach Megan McGee. "Several of our English riders experienced 'first-timer' syndrome for their rides on Saturday and Sunday. Mental mistakes in the equitation patterns created the lop-sided scores against two strong teams in Texas. I expect to see significant improvements on the mental preparation side before our next outing."
Marrin scored the lone SDSU point in equitation over fences, carding a 79 to defeat her Mustang opponent by 14 points. Sauer picked-up the only Jackrabbit point in equitation on the flat with a 72-point effort.
The Jackrabbit English riders get the rest of the year off before returning to action on Feb. 13-14 in River Falls, Wis.
