STERLING,
Ill. ? The South Dakota State men's track and field team finished third
overall, led by a pair of Ben Jasinski second-place finishes, at the
Summit League championships in Sterling, Ill. at the Westwood Sports
Center Saturday.
North Dakota State won the team title, scoring 186 points, while
Southern Utah placed second with 118.5 points. SDSU scored 107.5 points
to finish third at the event. Oral Roberts and Western Illinois round
out the top-five scoring 80 and 74 points, respectively.
Jasinski led the Jacks with runner-up performances in a pair of events
on the day, leading a trio of Jacks in the high jump with a mark of 6
feet 10.25 inches. He tied Jeremy Geditz of NDSU but placed second due
to fewer misses at lower heights. Camden Helder placed third with a
leap of 6-08.25 and Jared Vlastuin finished tied for fourth at 6-06.25.
Jasinski's other second place finish came in the triple jump with a mark of 48-04.50.
The mile run saw three SDSU runners place in the top eight with
Michael Krsnak leading the pack. He placed fourth with a time of
4 minutes 17.50 seconds followed by Greg Vollmer in sixth at 4:20.10 and Toldd Vlieger
in eighth at 4:25.18.
The Jacks also placed a trio of athletes in the 60-meter hurdles.
Brandon Priebe led the way in third place with a time of 8.35, followed
by Nick Schanaman in fourth at 8.36 and Andrew Duitsman in seventh with
a time of 8.41.
The distance medley relay team place third with a time of 10:12.73,
fourth best at SDSU. The team of Todd Vlieger, Evan Bunkers, Jake Schnellerand Greg Vollmer was the fourth different combination of
runners to set a top-10 mark in the event this season.
Sam McInerney and Sean Burns placed third and fourth, respectively, in
the shot put. McInerney throw 49-4.25, while Burns threw a season-best
47-7.25 in the event.
The meet wraps up the indoor portion of the schedule for SDSU. The
Jacks return to the track for the outdoor season at the Missouri Relays
beginning on March 27 at Columbia, Mo.
