SAN DIEGO ? The South Dakota State softball team managed just one run in dropping both games of a doubleheader to Miami University on Tuesday in San Diego. The RedHawks scored four runs each game, winning the opener 4-1 and the nightcap 4-0.
The two losses drop the Jackrabbits to 3-17 heading into Wednesday's single game with the other SDSU, San Diego State.
SDSU picked up three hits in the first game of the day, but could not get a runner past second base. Ashley Durazo picked-up the first hit of the day, a one-out single in the fourth. Morgan McCabe singled in the fifth and Greta Stroh doubled in the sixth, but none of them advanced.
Miami plated one run in their third and then put the game away with a trio of insurance runs in the fifth.
Jenna Marston pitched all six innings, striking out five and walking none in taking the loss.
The Jacks fared better in the second game with one run on seven hits, but they also left seven on base in the 4-1 loss.
The RedHawks got on the board first with two runs on four hits in the fourth and then added two more runs on two hits and an error in the sixth.
The lone Jackrabbit run came in the seventh, when Brooke Postma singled home Krystal Higgerson, who got on with a two-out double.
Pam Nicholson went the distance in taking the loss, giving up six hits, while striking out three and walking one.
