FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State Rams swept a doubleheader with South Dakota State on Sunday, blanking the Jackrabbits 6-0 in the opener and 6-3 in the nightcap.
The losses drop the Jacks to 5-12 on the season, while the Rams improve to 12-7.
CSU's Caitla Stem opened the day with a leadoff homerun to start the day as the Rams scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings before putting the game away with three runs on three hits and two SDSU errors in the sixth.
Kori Seidlitz pitched all six innings and took the loss. She gave up four earned runs, walked three and struck out one in the loss, which drops her record to 4-7.
Things turned around a bit in Game 2, as the Jacks capitalized on a CSU miscue to plate one run in the first. The Jacks added a run in the second on a Pam Nicholson RBI sacrifice fly that scored Emily Heairet to put SDSU up 2-0.
Colorado State came back with two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings to go up 6-2, more than enough, as the Jacks could only manage one more run on an Ashley Durazo single in the seventh.
Krista honken led the Jackrabbits with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate in the nightcap, Devon Reick finished the game 2-for-3 in the loss.
In addition to her sac fly RBI, Nicholson pitched all six innings, striking out six and walking four in the loss, which drops her record to 1-5.
The Jackrabbits return to action with a single game against Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., on Monday at 3 p.m. MT.
