South Dakota State strung together a pair of two-out hits in the bottom of the first inning of its series finale with IUPUI, but the Jaguars put up crooked numbers in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to avoid the series sweep with an 8-3 win.
The Jacks first-ever loss to the Jaguars in nine games snaps a season-long four game winning streak and drops them to 14-27 overall and to an even 6-6 in The Summit League. IUPUI improves to 11-32 overall and 8-10 in league play.
Dani Broshar continued her hot hitting in the first inning with a two-out single to centerfield. Kelsey Lunn followed that up with a double down the left field line to score Broshar and give the Jacks an early 1-0 lead.
The Jaguars took their first lead of the series in the fourth, plating three runs on four hits, knocking Jackrabbit starter Kori Seidlitz out of the game in the process.
IUPUI added two runs in the sixth to increase its lead to 5-1, and then put the game away with three more runs in the seventh inning.
The Jacks mounted a bit of a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but came up short.
SDSU returns to the road for the final time this season next week, with a three game series at Oakland, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. ET and wrapping up with a single game on Saturday noon ET.
