New's two homers marks the Jacks first multi-homerun game since Samantha Heinzman hit two in a 3-2 loss in the second game of a doubleheader at Nebraska exactly two years ago on April 2, 2008.
The Jacks improve to 9-20 overall with the win, 3-2 in Summit League play. UMKC falls to 9-23 overall, 4-7 in league play.
New finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI triple as her other hit to finish the game with five RBI. Kelsey Lunn also went yard in the game, a two run blast in the third inning, she also hit a double and drew a walk for a 2-for-2 day at the plate with four RBI.
UMKC started the cold day with the hot bats, plating five runs on seven hits and one SDSU error in the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 that they would not relinquish.
Anna Sokolik led the way for the Kangaroos, both at the plate and in the circle, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and pitching five innings of three-hit ball with no walks and five strikeouts.
UMKC opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, but the Jacks took their first lead of the day with two runs in the bottom of the first and extended it to 3-1 with a single run in the second.
The 'Roos tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the third before the Jacks erupted for six runs on five hits, including Lunn's and New's first homerun, to take a 9-3 lead.
Kori Seidlitz picked-up the win for the Jacks in the second game to improve her record to 8-11. The freshman gave up seven hits and three runs with a pair of walks and five strikeouts.
The Jackrabbits and Kangaroos play the rubber game of the series, the annual 'Think Pink' game, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
