The South Dakota State Equestrian team hosted No. 8 New Mexico State on Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center in the final home show of the season for the Jackrabbits, and even though the Jacks led early, the Aggies came back late to secure an 11-9 win.
"Although we did not win our meet today we put together some outstanding rides," head coach Megan Rossiter said. "We look forward to a well-deserved break before our spring season begins in January."
The Jackrabbits, who received a vote in the latest Equestrian Coaches Poll, fall to 2-4-1 with the loss, while the No. 8 Aggies improve to 5-3.
Santana Wright picked up the lone MVP award for the Jackrabbits after carding an 87 over fences, where the Jacks also got points from Meredith Sauer and Jordan Goodall.
SDSU also got three points, but no MVP honors, in both Western events, and the Aggies swept all five points in equitation on the flat to secure the win.
The fall season complete, the Jackrabbits do not compete again until Feb. 11, when they take on the Aggies again, this time in Las Cruces, N.M.
