The South Dakota State Equestrian team split the Western points 3-3, but defeated Delaware State 6-2 in the hunt seat events to earn a 9-5 win over the Hornets on Sunday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
"We are ecstatic about the win today," head coach Megan Rossiter said. "The team continues to improve each meet, and it paid off in the arena today. We're definitely ready to take on New Mexico State on the Nov. 19."
The Jackrabbits took home three of the four MVP awards in the win, with Santana Wright earning the honor with an 85 in equitation over fences, Maggie Holzworth with a 71.5 in horsemanship and Helen Lauth with a 72 in reining.
Despite not getting the MVP in equitation on the flat, Megan Schiffman, Jenna Boscardin and Megan Violand all earned points for the Jacks on the flat. Both Boscardin and Violand also won two of the Jacks three points over fences.
Hannah Stone recorded one of the Jackrabbits two points in horsemanship, as Kelsey Champagne tied with DSU's Tayler Scuse with a score of 70. Holzworth also tied with her opponent in reining.
The Jackrabbits get a week off before closing out the fall season on Nov. 19 at home against New Mexico State.
