FORT WORTH, Texas – South Dakota State sophomore reiner Mariah Wright captured her school record seventh-career reining MOP award on Saturday at TCU, but the Jackrabbits came up short in a 15-4 meet at No. 7 TCU.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 1-4 on the season, while the Horned Frogs improve to 3-2.
“Unfortunately we had another big loss today, but we want to congratulate Mariah Wright as the MOP in reining to set a new record. We couldn't be more excited for her,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. “We're back in action next weekend and we're working hard to become a more consistent as a team.”
A Wooster, Ohio, native, Wright scored the Jacks lone reining point with a score of 71 to improve to 3-0-2 on the season, with her second MOP. Kelsey Swainston carded a 73 in horsemanship to score the Jacks only other western point. She moves to 3-0-1 on the season with the win.
Junior Jessica Andronowitz tallied both SDSU hunt seat points, scoring an 83 on the flat and an 82 over fences. She moves to 1-3 on the flat and 3-2 over fences.
The Jackrabbits close the fall portion of their schedule next weekend with a pair of meets scheduled in Dover, Del., where they ride against New Mexico State on Friday and Delaware State on Saturday.
