The South Dakota State equestrian team earned all four MOPs and swept both equitation on the flat and reining in a 13-3 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
The win boosts the Jackrabbits record to 6-5 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 in NCEA action on the season.
“I was really happy to see strong rides in the hunt seat events today, and the reiners were strong again,” head coach Megan Rossiter said. “That said, we could have been better in the horsemanship, but overall it was a really good day. We'll have to ride well again on Saturday to beat Fresno State, they're a strong team.”
SDSU won all four points on the flat, with sophomore Jessica Andronowitz earning her second MOP of the season with a score of 78 to improve to 3-5 on the season. Junior Marielle Golden posted the highest score on the flat with an 81 to improve to 7-1. Senior Jordan Goodall scored a 73 and improved to 4-5, while freshman Melissa Kerr evened her record at 2-2 with a score of 73.
Golden carded a season-high 84 over fences to earn her second MOP of the year and boost her fences record to 4-5. Andronowitz also scored an 84, and improves to 6-3, while Goodeall moves to 3-6 with her score of 83.
Sophomore Angela Lopez made the most of her first collegiate horsemanship ride, scoring a 72 and earning MOP honors in the process. Sophomore Kelsey Swainston scored the Jacks only other horsemanship point, finishing with a score of 71.5 to improve to 5-3-1 this season.
Sophomore Miranda Sullivan picked up her second MOP of the season with an even 71 in reining to move her record to 3-2-3 this season. Senior Danielle Baker and junior Raivenne Scott both won their points with scores of 68. The win evens Baker's record at 4-4-1, while Scott improves to 5-3. Freshman Mariah Wright improved to 7-1-1 with her score of 64.5.
The Jacks look to keep it going on Saturday, when they host No. 7 Fresno State at the DeHaan Equestrian Center at 8 a.m. The Bulldogs also beat Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, topping the Golden Eagles by the score of 11-4.
