For the second consecutive tournament, the South Dakota State women's golf team will be defending a title when it plays in the Lady Thunderbird Invitational Thursday and Friday in St. George, Utah.
The 36-hole event takes place at the par-72, 6,092-yard Sunbrook Golf Course on the Black Rock & The Point. The 11-team field includes Summit League member North Dakota State. The Jackrabbits will have a shotgun start at noon Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday.
Last year, South Dakota State won the title by 18 strokes, shooting a two-round 578 (287-291). Senior
Hallie Getz won the individual title, firing a career-best three-under par 141 (68-73) to lead the 79-player field.
For the season, senior
Megan Mingo leads the team and ranks third in The Summit League with a 74.43 stroke average. She has an individual title, three top-five and six top-10 finishes.
After winning the Jackrabbit Invitational this past weekend, freshman
Teresa Toscano is second on the team and fifth in the league with a 74.70 stroke average. She has a team-leading six rounds at or below par. The rookie also has four top-five and five top-10 finishes.
Getz ranks sixth in The Summit League and third on the team with a 74.83 stroke average. She has an individual title, five top-five and six top-10 finishes this season.
The Jackrabbits are shooting a school-record 299.22 to lead The Summit League in stroke average. State also ranks 69
th in the latest Golfstat rankings.
