Ninth-ranked UC Davis recorded a sweep in the flat competition and went on to defeat South Dakota State, 14-4, in an equestrian head-to-head competition Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

The defending ECAC champion Aggies improved to 1-2 overall with the victory in their league opener. SDSU dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 against ECAC opponents.

UC Davis won all five matchups in flat to build an early lead and also notched 3-1 advantages in horsemanship and reining. Carly Sweeney and Sierra Gundersen paced the Aggies with individual victories in both flat and fences in jumping seat competition.

SDSU earned two points in both fences and reining. Hannah Steele (84) and Cali Karbler (74) each tallied victories for the Jackrabbits in fences, while Grace Gerbus (76.5) and Paige Butterfield (73) posted wins in horsemanship and reining, respectively.

Two other head-to-head matchups involving Paige Wellendorf in horsemanship (75) and Shelby Cochran in reining (71) resulted in ties.

UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits close out the fall portion of their schedule by hosting Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m. Saturday.
