South Dakota State swept the fences category and claimed all four Most Outstanding Performer honors in defeating Minnesota Crookston, 16-2, in head-to-head equestrian competition Saturday afternoon at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

The Jackrabbits improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 against ECAC opponents. Saturday's competition closed out the fall portion of the schedule for SDSU.

Four of SDSU's five riders in fences put up scores of 84 or higher in winning their individual matchups. Sophia Kregoski and Hannah Steele each posted scores of 86, with Kregoski earning MOP honors for her ride on Sunday. Freshman Kayla Scherer earned her first collegiate victory with a score of 85 on Vita, with Julia Werkhoven tallying an 84 on Joey. Cali Karbler closed out the sweep with a 68-64 victory over Gabriella Siekes of Minnesota Crookston on Archie.

To close out the jumping seat portion of the competition, the Jackrabbits claimed all four available points in flat. Karbler turned in the high score of 77, with Steele receiving MOP recognition after she posted a score of 75 on Sweet Pea. Werkhoven (75) and Virginia Klecker (63) picked up the other two points for SDSU, while Kregoski and the Golden Eagles' Danica Bergagnini tied at 69 in their head-to-head matchup.

In the Western events, Grace Gerbus and Paige Butterfield earned MOP honors in the horsemanship and reining, respectively. Gerbus posted a high score of 78 aboard Bernie, with the Jackrabbits also receiving point-producing performances in horsemanship from Paige Wellendorf (74.5) and Shelby Cochran (73.5). Brighton McBride and UM Crookston's Madison Wachtel tied with scores of 71.5.

Butterfield led a 4-1 Jackrabbit advantage in reining with a top score of 75.5. Cochran (75), Adisyn Kuxhaus (72.5) and McBride (71.5) also won their individual matchups.

UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to return to competition Jan. 26-27 in Dallas, Texas, with meets against Delaware State and Southern Methodist.
