South Dakota State makes a quick trip south on Interstate 29 for its first Summit League contest of the season when the Jackrabbits take on South Dakota at 1 p.m. Sunday in Vermillion. The Jackrabbits make their league debut, while the Coyotes play in their second game following their conference opener versus St. Thomas on Thursday.Â

The Jackrabbits sit at 7-2 overall following a 1-0 defeat at Creighton last Friday. SDSU and Creighton played a competitive match from the start, but a 45th minute goal propelled the Bluejays to a victory. Creighton now holds the series lead with a 15-2-1 mark all-time over SDSU. Despite the loss, South Dakota State still sits among the nation's best in several categories this season. The Jackrabbits are tied for fifth in the nation with multiple teams with their seven total victories. SDSU is ninth in the country in total assists (26), 17th in total points (74) and 23rd in total goals (24).

SDSU and South Dakota meet for the 17th time on Sunday. Vermillion has served as a challenging site for the Jacks as SDSU sits at 2-5-1 all-time at the Coyotes' home facility. The Jackrabbits' last victory in Vermillion came in 2014 and are 0-2-1 since that win.

South Dakota is 5-2-3 and on a three-game win streak following its 3-1 victory over St. Thomas in Vermillion Thursday. The Coyotes are led in scoring by a quartet of players with multiple goals and assists. Ashby Johnston has a team-high 16 points, while she's followed by Brooke Conway (12) and Shaylee Gailus (11). Senior defender Taylor Ravelo paces USD with 869 minutes on the pitch. Goalkeeper Caroline Lewis has a .776 save percentage and 1.35 goals against average.

Six Jackrabbits have scored multiple goals this season, excluding
Maya Hansen who left the Grand Canyon match on Sept. 7 due to injury and still sits atop SDSU's scoring chart in multiple categories. The Jacks do have two scorers with three goals in
Avery Murdzek and
Jadenn Carrillo.

Avery Murdzek was the TicketSmarter Summit League Offensive Peak Peak Performer of the Week on Aug. 28, while goalkeeper
Jocelyn Tanner claimed the accolades on the defensive side on Sept. 11.
Kaycee Manding was named to TopDrawer Soccer's Team of the Week on Sept. 11 as well for her play on the back row in two victories. Tanner has a .778 save percentage and 0.80 goals against average this season, while Manding has competed for a team-high 753 minutes.

The Jackrabbits' eight-game run through Summit League begins Sunday. SDSU's remaining home contests take place on Sept. 28, Oct. 1, Oct. 12 and Oct. 15.
