South Dakota State continues Summit League action this week with a home and an away match on the schedule. The Jackrabbits host Kansas City at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Fishback Soccer Park. SDSU follows the meeting in Brookings by traveling to St. Paul to face St. Thomas at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Â
SDSU opened its conference schedule this past Sunday with a 4-1 victory at Omaha. The scoring output matched the Jackrabbits' season high while it also was the most scored goals by SDSU in a Summit League regular season match since the 2022 season. Kansas City, which went 6-1-3 during its non-conference schedule, is 0-2 in league play after defeats to Denver (3-1) and North Dakota State (1-0). St. Thomas stands at 0-1-1 following a scoreless draw versus South Dakota and a 1-0 loss to Oral Roberts.
The Jackrabbits are off to an 8-2-1 start to the season. SDSU is in the midst of a four-match winning streak and undefeated span of eight consecutive matches. The last eight matches have seen the Jacks outscore their foes 23-5. SDSU has scored in a program-record nine straight halves.
SDSU's win over Omaha saw the Jackrabbits improve their all-time record in Summit League openers to 17-1-1. The Jackrabbits have now outshot their adversary in all 11 matches played this season. South Dakota State is 15-1-2 all-time in its Summit League home-opening matches of the year. The match versus the Mavs saw SDSU record a season-high 12 points for the third time, which included a first-career brace for
Laney Murdzek.
A variety of trends have emerged following 11 matches this season. SDSU is 8-0 this year when scoring two-plus goals, while the Jacks are 7-1-1 when holding foes to one goal or less. South Dakota state is also among the nation's best in several categories. The Jacks rank third in the country in corner kicks per game (8.55), 10th in shots per game (20.09) and 11th in fouls per game (6.27).
The Jackrabbits will face two teams that the program has had success against of late. SDSU, with a 7-2-1 record all-time, had won four straight meetings versus the Roos before a scoreless draw at Kansas City last year. The Jacks are 3-0 with a pair of 3-1 wins and a 3-0 victory over the Tommies since St. Thomas made the move to the Division I level.
