HAYWARD, CA – South Dakota State track and field had athletes competing in California and Texas in the final day of opening weekend action, highlighted by four top 10 performances and a new school record.
STANFORD INVITATIONAL
At approximately 12:45 a.m. CT Saturday morning, section two of the women's 10k kicked off. The late night start time proved to be beneficial, as
Leah Hisken and
Ashlyn Hillyard ran two of the fastest times in school history in the event.
Hisken ran the first ever sub-34 10k in SDSU women's history, with her PR time of 33:59.68. She finished ninth in the section as Hillyard clocked a 34:45.53 to finish 18
th with the second-fastest time in school history.
Daniel Burkhalter clocked a 3:47.80 in section one of the men's 1500-meter run, finishing 11
th overall.
MIKE FANELLI TRACK CLASSIC
Claire Beckman ran a 2:12.65 for second place in section two of the 800-meter run as
Grace Waage clocked a 2:12.98 for fourth in section three.
Brandon Kampsen joined the SDSU Top 10 as he won section two of the men's 800-meter run in 1:50.52, the ninth-fastest time in school history.
Will Lohr also clocked a 1:57.29 in section nine for a seventh place finish in his event debut as Burkhalter took eighth in section three after running a time of 1:53.51.
BOBCAT INVITATIONAL
Brielle Dixon came out hot in her second 100-meter hurdle race of the season, blazing to a 13.75 personal best finish to win heat four and take sixth overall. Her clocking is now the second-fastest time in school history.
Savannah Risseeuw ran a 14.56 in heat three of the event for a seventh place finish and 28
th overall.
UP NEXT: SDSU will head south for the USD Early Bird meet on April 5 and 6 in Vermillion.
