MAYETTA, Kan. - The South Dakota State women's golf team is set to join the rest of the Summit League for the Summit League Championships Sunday through Tuesday at Firekeeper Golf Course.Â
The Jackrabbits enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will begin play at 9:50 a.m. Sunday. SDSU is slated to play with South Dakota and North Dakota State for Sunday's round. The squad wrapped the regular season with six top-five team finishes in nine total events played over the fall and spring. Sophomore
McKenzie Mages will play in the No. 1 spot for SDSU, followed by
Piper Stubbs,
Shakira-Ann Kuys,
Alex Kandolin and
Reese Jansa.
Mages earned an honorable mention all-Summit nod in the conference's awards release Friday. The sophomore averages a team-best 74.85Â shots per round this season. She has four top-10 finishes in seven events played, including a first-place finish at the WIU Intercollegiate in early April. Mages has placed in the top-five in three of her last five outings. She recorded a +4 scorecard at the Jackrabbit Invitational in March, her best score-to-par this year.
Stubbs, also an honorable mention pick, averages 75.28 shots per 18 holes this year. The junior has six top-10 finishes this season, including in each of the last three tournaments. Her best finish of the season came at the Tommie Invitational, where she tied for third place. At the Jackrabbit Invitational in March, Stubbs went 4-under for her best score-to-par of the season.
Kuys has a 75.28 stroke average this season. She has four top-10 placings in her junior campaign with her best finish - fourth place - coming at the WIU Intercollegiate in early April. She fired an even-par 54 holes to finish 10th at the Jackrabbit Invitational in March.
Alex Kandolin, the 2023 Summit League runner-up, averages 76.76 strokes per round. She has three top-10 finishes in her senior season and was runner-up at the WIU Intercollegiate.
Reese Jansa enters the tournament averaging 76.32Â strokes per 18 holes. She has a pair of top-10 finishes this season.
