NDIANAPOLIS— Nine South Dakota State wrestlers maintained their ranking in the top 33 of their respective weight classes in the second coaches' rankings for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Seven Jacks are ranked in the top 33 of their weight classes in the first Rating Percentage Index (RPI) of the season. Rankings were announced Thursday.
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 16 coaches in each weight class, with two head coaches from each of the eight conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered, with at least one within the last 30 days.
The RPI is a calculation that consists of three factors: winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI, and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked.
Bennett Berge continues to lead the way for the Jackrabbits, ranked No. 5 in the country at 184 pounds, moving up one rank from the last coaches' rankings. He also comes in at No. 3 in RPI. Berge is 20-4 this year with a 12-3 dual record and seven ranked wins.
Drake Rhodes is the other Jackrabbit ranked in the top 10 of his division as he comes in at No. 8 at 165 pounds in the coaches' poll and RPI. The redshirt sophomore transfer from Iowa is 19-3 this year with a dual record of 6-1.
Four Jackrabbits remain between 11th and 20th in their respective divisions:
Tanner Jordan, 14th at 125 pounds (20-4 record)
Cobe Siebrecht, 18th at 157 pounds (9-5 record)
Cade DeVos, 11th at 174 pounds (15-5 record)
Zach Glazier, 17th at 197 pounds (8-4 record)
Jordan comes in ranked No. 21 by RPI, and DeVos is ranked No. 10 by RPI. Siebrecht and Glazier do not appear in the RPI rankings because they do not meet the 15 D1 match minimum.
Rounding out the rankings were Derrick Cardinal (16-10), coming in at No. 27 at 133 pounds, Julian Tagg (12-9) at No. 25 at 141 pounds and Luke Rasmussen (17-6) at No. 26 at 285 pounds.
Cardinal finds himself at No. 24 for RPI, Tagg is No. 22 in RPI, and Rasmussen is No. 24 by RPI.
The next ranking will be on Thursday, February 27. The 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships take place March 20-22 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia as the event returns for the first time since 2011.
