INDIANAPOLIS— Nine South Dakota State wrestlers maintained their ranking in the top 33 of their respective weight classes in the third coaches' rankings for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Eight Jacks are ranked in the top 33 of their weight classes in the second Rating Percentage Index (RPI) of the season. Rankings were announced Thursday.
In addition, weight-class pre-allocations for the upcoming NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships were announced.
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 16 coaches in each weight class, with two head coaches from each of the eight conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered, with at least one within the last 30 days.
The RPI is a calculation that consists of three factors: winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI, and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked.
Bennett Berge continues to lead the way for the Jackrabbits, ranked No. 5 in the country at 184 pounds. He also comes in at No. 2 in RPI, moving up in the RPI rankings one spot. He sports a 22-4 record overall with 10 ranked wins this season.
Drake Rhodes holds his top-10 ranking in the Coaches' Rankings, coming at No. 9 in the country at 165 pounds, one spot down from the last rankings. He comes in at No. 10 in RPI.
Three Jackrabbits are between 10th and 20th in their respective divisions in the Coaches' Rankings:
Tanner Jordan, 16th at 125 pounds
Cade DeVos, 11th at 174 pounds
Zach Glazier, 16th at 197 pounds
Jordan comes in ranked No. 20 by RPI, and DeVos is ranked No. 8 by RPI. Glazier makes his first appearance in the RPI Rankings at No. 13.
Rounding out the rankings were Cobe Siebrecht, coming in at No. 21 at 157 pounds, Derrick Cardinal, coming in at No. 28 at 133 pounds, Julian Tagg at No. 25 at 141 pounds and Luke Rasmussen at No. 33 at 285 pounds.
Siebrecht makes his first appearance on the RPI rankings at No. 31, Cardinal finds himself at No. 30, Tagg comes in at No. 18, and Rasmussen does not appear on the RPI rankings.
The Big 12 Conference was awarded a total of 61 automatic pre-allocations for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which are slated for March 20-22 in Philadelphia, Pa. The allocations, which include at least six bids for eight weight classes, will be determined by placings at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship March 8-9 in Tulsa, Okla.
Five weight classes will receive seven allocations, 149 and 133 pounds will receive six and 197 and 285 will be awarded four. The Big 12's 61 allocations ranked second among conferences, trailing the Big Ten's 87 allocations.
