BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State men's golf team has announced the addition of Ty Adkins to the roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Adkins will transfer to SDSU following two seasons at Wichita State. The Hutchinson, Kansas native competed in nine events across his freshman and sophomore seasons with a 76.2 stroke average. He tallied 51 birdies and three eagles. Adkins' best finish was a tie for 11th place at the SIUE Doling Invitational last fall, where he posted a career-best 69 single round. Also at Wichita State, Adkins was an AAC All-Academic Selection and member of the Dean's List and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
"I remember talking with Ty when he was coming out of high school, so when he was in the transfer portal it made a lot of sense to touch base with him," said head coach
Parker Edens. "The more I communicated with him, the more I started to realize how well he'd fit into our culture and program. I am extremely excited to see what he brings to our program and I am looking forward to the next two years with him!"
Adkins is a 2023 graduate of Hutchison High School. In high school, Akins was a three-time all-state selection and led Class 6A in scoring average as junior (71.5). He finished in the top-10 at the state tournament three times, included a runner-up finish as a junior. Adkins was crowned the Central Link Junior Golf Match Play Champion in 2023. The Kansas Golf Foundation honored Adkins with the Phil Miller Junior Golf Award in 2023. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Adkins is the son of Troy and Susan Adkins, who both competed in college athletics. Troy played football and ran track at Butler Community College and Kansas State while Susan played tennis at Washburn University.
