South Dakota State returns to the pitch in a familiar, yet unfamiliar setting, as the Jackrabbits prepare to host the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Summit League Championship. The Jackrabbits welcome St. Thomas to Brookings for a 6 p.m. match on Friday.
SDSU's meeting versus St. Thomas will have a change in venue due to continued rainy conditions in the region. The Jackrabbits and Tommies are slated to square off at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Spectators for Friday evening's game are asked to park on the west side of the facility. Gate 2 (G2), located on the west end of the stadium, will serve as the public entrance as well where fans will be able to purchase tickets (if not doing so online at JackrabbitTickets.com beforehand). Spectators will be able to sit in sections 103-105. The gate will open at 5 p.m. and concessions will be available.
The Jacks finished in a tie for first in Pod A of The Summit League standings with a 5-3-2 record and 17 points. However, SDSU fell 1-0 to North Dakota State in the regular season finale. That result propelled the Bison up to 5-3-2 in league play and 17 points as well. It also gave NDSU a tiebreaker over SDSU with the two teams previously completing a scoreless tie in Fargo on Oct. 3. St. Thomas finished third in Pod B of the league standings with a 3-6-1 record (10 points).
The Jackrabbits and Tommies square off for the second time this season. The two sides met in St. Paul on Oct. 15 and competed through a barrage of rain over the course of 90 minutes. The difference came in the 51st minute when St. Thomas' Becca Smith found the back of the net.
St. Thomas' victory over SDSU was the first for the Tommies in the all-time series against the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State holds a 5-1 record all-time against St. Thomas. Last season in a match at Fishback Soccer Park, SDSU defeated St. Thomas by a 6-0 score. St. Thomas is making its first Summit League tournament appearance since joining the conference.
South Dakota State enters the 2026 postseason with a 10-5-3 record. The program has won the previous three Summit League Championship tournament titles despite not serving as the No. 1 seed.
The last two seasons have seen the Jacks in the exact same scenario it faces on Friday. SDSU is the conference's No. 3 seed overall for the third straight year. The Jackrabbits earned a victory in the 2024 quarterfinals in a double overtime affair against South Dakota by a 2-1 score. State defeated Omaha 1-0 at Fishback last year in the quarterfinals.
The Jackrabbits are 10-1 over the course of the past five Summit League Championship tournaments. SDSU needed two victories in 2021 and 2023 to claim tournament titles. The 2022 tournament saw SDSU upset by Omaha by a 1-0 score as the Mavericks eventually won that season's championship.
SDSU is 17-6-6 all-time in Summit League Tournament play. The Jackrabbits are 8-0-3 all-time as the third seed and 2-0 versus the sixth seed.
