South Dakota State hits the road this week, traveling to Tulsa, Okla. to play Oral Roberts Thursday evening and wrapping up at Denver on Saturday afternoon. This marks the second meeting against both opponents this season as the Jacks enter the final two weeks of the conference slate.
The Jackrabbits enter the week at 20-6 overall and 10-2 in league play. SDSU beat Kansas City, 93-40, Saturday afternoon and have won three straight.
Oral Roberts is 13-12 on the season and 6-6 in Summit League action. The Golden Eagles are coming off a split week with a loss to St. Thomas on Wednesday and a win over Denver on Saturday. Jalei Oglesby leads the Golden Eagles in scoring (16.1 PPG) and rebounds (5.5 RPG). Oral Roberts tops the Summit League in steals per game (10.0) and turnovers forced per game (19.64).
Denver is 9-17 overall and 3-10 in conference play. The Pioneers went 0-2 last week against Omaha on Wednesday and Oral Roberts on Saturday. Coryn Watts is pacing Denver in scoring (19.4 PPG) and assists (2.7 APG).
KEY STORYLINES
- The Jacks have reached 20 wins for the 15th consecutive season. SDSU is one of only a handful of programs with an active streak that long (Baylor, UConn, Louisville, South Carolina).
- Two wins this week would give Coach Aaron Johnston 650 for his coaching career. He ranks 12th among active DI coaches for career wins and career win percentage (.763).
- SDSU is on a three-game win streak and has been on a tear in that stretch, scoring more than 84 points in each of those games and holding opponents to less than 51 in all three contests. The Jacks are shooting .552 from the floor as a team and allowing only .358 shooting by opponents over the last three games.
- Brooklyn Meyer scores 21.1 points per game (14th in NCAA) and is .636 from the floor this year (4th in NCAA). She is one of three players in the country averaging 20+ points and shooting better than 60% this year (Audi Crooks, Iowa State & Jaliya Davis, Kansas).
- Brooklyn Meyer is coming off a massively productive week during which she averaged 16.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals shooting 62% over the two games. With 1,878 career points, Brooklyn Meyer is 10 points from sole possession of third place on SDSU's career scoring chart (page six).
- Emilee Fox scored a career-high 26 points with seven 3-pointers against Kansas City over the weekend. Fox averages 10.9 points in conference play and leads the Summit in 3-point percentage (.556) and 3-pointers per game (3.0).
- Maddie Mathiowetz averages 12.7 PPG overall and 13.4 PPG in conference contests. She has scored at least 15 points in six of the last eight games.
- Hadley Thul has started three straight games for the Jacks. In that stretch, Thul has contributed 8.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
