BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State men's basketball head coach
Bryan Petersen announced the hiring of
Jahenns Manigat (Ja-hens Man-e-gah) as an assistant to his staff on Tuesday. Manigat comes to Brookings with an extensive professional playing career while he enters his third season in the coaching ranks.
"We are very excited about the addition of
Jahenns Manigat, and his wife Kaitlyn, to our men's basketball family here at South Dakota State," Petersen said.
"Jahenns brings a wealth of playing experience having been a four-year starter at Creighton and then playing professionally 10 years overseas. Most recently, he's made a major impact at Creighton and Murray State. He's worked primarily with guards, focused on skill and player development, and has a familiarity with international recruiting. We're really looking forward to having Jahenns work with our players and believe that he can make a major impact on our program right away."
The native of Ottawa, Ontario, was a three-year captain during his college career at Creighton from 2010-14. He made an immediate impact for the Bluejays as a freshman earning Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team and All-Bench Team accolades. Manigat helped lead Creighton to two Missouri Valley Conference Tournament titles, as well as three NCAA Tournament appearances, as the Bluejays moved to the Big East Conference ahead of his senior season.
His time at Creighton saw him start in 122 of 145 games played. Manigat finished his Bluejay career sixth in the program's history with 206 3-pointers.
Manigat's decade of professional basketball saw him play in 10 different countries. It included stints in Romania, Cypress, Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Kosovo and his home country of Canada.
Manigat made his debut at the college level as a coach in 2024-25 as a graduate assistant at Creighton. He was a member of a staff under Greg McDermott that guided the Bluejays to a Big East Tournament finals appearance and advanced to the Second Round of NCAA Tournament.
The 2025-26 season saw Manigat join Ryan Miller's inaugural staff at Murray State. Manigat served as Murray State's Director of Player Personnel as the Racers finished last season's campaign with a 20-13 overall record. Their season ended with a National Invitation Tournament appearance.
Manigat fills the position that was available following the departure of Cole Christian who took a similar position at North Texas this month.
