BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State head men's basketball coach
Bryan Petersen announced on Monday the addition of
Youssouf Yatabare to the program ahead of the 2026-27 season. A native of Paris, France, Yatabare joined the Jackrabbits for the start of the fall semester after contributing to the France U20 national team's EuroBasket appearance this summer.Â
Â
The FIBA U20 EuroBasket was held this past July in Slovenia. The annual tournament featured Europe's top 16 countries to qualify for the internation competition. Yatabare helped his France squad win all three of its Group Phase contests, along with a pair of knockout round matchups, all by double digits. Yatabare's team fell in the semifinals to eventual champion and host Slovenia, 91-89, before placing fourth at the event after a defeat to Spain.Â
Â
Yatabare scored a tournament-high 13 points in 13 minutes in France's round of 16 victory over Poland. He grabbed seven rebounds across 20 minutes of action in a quarterfinal win against Croatia in the quarterfinals. Yatabare averaged 6.0 points, on 51.4% from the field, along with 4.4 rebounds per game in a total of seven contests.
Â
Yatabare has club experience competing for the Nanterre 92 U21 team. The Nanterre 92 professional team participates in the Betclic Elite, the highest level of the French basketball system. That team also has routinely competed in Europe's Basketball Champions League.Â
Â
This past 2025-26 season saw Yatabare lead the Nanterre 92 U21 squad to an 18-12 record and a playoff qualification. Yatabare played in 24 games and averaged 11.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He recorded three 20-plus point scoring performances including a career-high 29 points in a single game. Yatabarre had multiple double-digit rebound efforts, which included a season-high 15 rebounds, and logged one double-double.Â
Â
He spent a total of three seasons with the Nanterre 92 organization and saw his averages improve across each year of play. Yatabarre also has experience in the FIBA 3x3 basketball circuit.Â
Â
"We're very excited to announce the addition of
Youssouf Yatabare to our Jackrabbit men's basketball family," Petersen said. "Youssouf will bring a great combination of size, length and athletic versatility that will impact our team in a lot of ways. We're excited to get to work with him and help him develop both on and off the floor here at SDSU."
Â
The South Dakota State men's basketball conference schedule has been previously released. SDSU's non-conference slate will continue to be publicized with updates available on the team's schedule page on GoJacks.com.
