BROOKINGS, S.D. ? Led by two goals from Kellyn Farrell the South Dakota State women's soccer team defeated Summit League foe, IPFW, 4-0 Friday night at Fishback Soccer Park.
Farrell scored two first half goals in the Jackrabbits' shutout of the Mastodons. Farrell is now tied for sixth place with Michelle Rahe on the SDSU all-time points list with 31. She also tied Rahe for seventh on SDSU's all-time goals list with 10. Farrell has three goals on the season.
The win improved the Jackrabbits' record to 3-3-3 on the season. IPFW's record is now 0-10-0 for the season.
Jessica Heine scored the first goal of the game off a penalty kick 16 minutes into the first half. The goal was Heine's second of the season.
Farrell got the next two Jackrabbit goals. The first was 22 minutes into the game. Alex Schaller and Tory Schiltgen picked up assists on the goal.
Farrell's next goal came five minutes later. Her first shot hit the post then she picked up the rebound and shot again to score her second goal of the game.
Kelsey Worcester scored the final SDSU goal eight minutes into the second half. Chelsea Goosen got the assist on
Daniella Pappas and Brienna Rogers combined to shutout the Mastodons. Pappas played the first period and had one save.
Malinda Holmer was IPFW's goalie. She had 10 saves and allowed four goals.
SDSU out-shot IPFW 27-8 for the match. The Jackrabbits had 15 shots on goal and the Mastodons had five shots on goal.
Farrell led the Jackrabbits with seven shots and four shots on goal.
Jenny Thorton and Heather Currie led IPFW with two shots and one shot on goal each.
SDSU will be in action again on Sunday when they host Summit League member, IUPUI. The match will be Senior Day and is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
