A short two-game road trip ended with two Jackrabbit losses, giving South Dakota State its longest losing streak of the season at three games.
Minnesota jumped all over the Jacks early last Wednesday, leading by as many as 19 points, but SDSU battled back to within five points before the Gophers finally pulled away in the second half for the 74-60 win.
Things looked similar in Denver on Sunday, with the Pioneers taking the early lead and never trailing in a 62-58 win. The Jacks stayed close throughout, but could never get closer than two points.
The Jackrabbits, who enter the week with a 4-7 overall record, look to end that skid on Tuesday, when they host Cal State-Bakersfield in their final non-conference home game of the season. The Roadrunners, who enter the game with a 3-7 record, beat the Jacks 73-71 in overtime last season.
SDSU NOTES ? Junior Garrett Callahan leads the Jackrabbit offensive attack with 17.5 points per game and with 26 assists. Sophomore Clint Sargent averages 15.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Junior Kai Williams averages 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and leads the Jacks with three blocks and five steals. Sophomore Anthony Cordova leads the Jacks with 7.9 rebounds per game and adds 8.5 points per game.
As a team, the Jacks shoot .419 from the floor overall, but shoot .338 from three-point range. Jackrabbit opponents shoot .464 from the field, but shoot just .306 from long distance. The Jacks hold a slight rebounding edge over their opponents, but enter the game with 20 fewer blocks, 16 fewer steals and with eight more turnovers.

COUNTDOWN TO 1,000 POINTS ? Junior Kai Williams enters the week with 873 career points, 129 shy of becoming the 39th member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club and the first to score all of them at the Division I level.
Fellow junior Garrett Callahan, who leads the Jacks with 17.4 points per game, enters the week with 763 points, 237 shy of joining the club. He needs to average just under 14 points per game over the 31-game regular season to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
TRANSITION OVER ? The NCAA Division I Management Council Administrative Committee, acting on behalf of the DI Management Council, announced in late June that South Dakota State University met the requirements to become an active member of NCAA Division I, starting at the beginning of the 2008-09 academic year.
Previously a member of Division II, SDSU Successfully completed the five-year process of moving its athletic programs to comply with Division I membership requirements. Those requirements include compliance with Division I rules for the final four years, meeting minimum financial aid and contest scheduling limits, engaging in a rules compliance review and successfully complete the athletics certification process.
SDSU officials submitted an extensive self-study to the NCAA in the spring of 2007 and a peer-review team completed the study during a campus visit in October 2007.
THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION

The Series vs. CSU-Bakersfield ? Tuesday's game marks the second meeting between SDSU and CSU-Bakersfield. The Roadrunners needed overtime to do it, but they won the first and only meeting with the Jacks 73-71 last season on Dec. 28, 2007 in Bakersfield, Calif.
NEXT UP FOR THE JACKRABBITS
