MINNEAPOLIS - South Dakota State scored first and led until the 10:31 mark of the first half, but Minnesota ended the half on a 22-4 run that turned into a 51-31 halftime lead and eventually a 92-62 win on Wednesday at Williams Arena.
The loss sends the Jackrabbits back in to Summit League play with a 5-8 record. The Gophers fifth straight win boosts their record to 9-3.
Garrett Callahan led all players with 25 points, including a 6-for-13 effort from three-point range. Minnesota native Nate Wolters added 14 points and led the Jacks with seven rebounds.
Callahan got the Jacks on the board first with a three-pointer from the top of the key and gave them their largest lead at 20-14 with another three from the left wing with 11:09 left in the first half.
In the midst of nine straight made baskets, the Gophers erased that lead with a quick 8-0 run and never looked back.
Blake Hoffarber led six Gophers in double figures with 16 points, Lawrence Westbrook added 12 and Devoe Joseph 11 points in the win. Damian Johnson, Al Nolen and Paul Carter all finished with 10 points.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Dec. 31, when they resume conference play against Oral Roberts at Frost Arena at 7 p.m.
