AMES, Iowa and ABERDEEN, S.D. ? Two South Dakota State records fell at two different locations this weekend as the men's track team competed in Ames, Iowa at the Iowa State Classic on Friday and Saturday and in Aberdeen, S.D. at the Northern State Open on Saturday.
The men's distance medley relay broke the school record with a time of 9:54.60 Friday at the ISU Classic. The team of
Michael Krsnak,
Jared Foote,
Jake Schneller and
Greg Vollmer ran near the front of the pack for most of the race but finished seventh out of 14 teams and missed third place by less than two seconds.
Luke Leischner broke into SDSU's all-time top-10 list with his performance in the 200-meter dash. His time of 22.62 seconds ranks him tied for eighth place with former Jackrabbit Ryan Nelson. He also moves into 10th all-time on the 400 meter list with a time of 49.47.
With a time of 1:54.17,
Luke Leischner placed seventh in the 800-meter non-seeded run. His best time this season moves him into eighth at SDSU.
In the men's pole vault,
Tyler Schiferl set a new personal-best mark with a mark of 16 feet .75 inches, moving him from sixth to second all-time at SDSU.
Calvin Cammack placed 16th with a mark of 15-01.00, setting a season best this season.
Anthony Bongard also placed second in the 3000-meter non-seeded run with a season-best time of 8 minutes 35.01 seconds missing first place by just .65 seconds.
At the NSU Open,
Ben Jasinski broke his own school record in the high jump on Saturday with a mark of 6-10.75. This marks the second time this season he has set the school record in the high jump, beating his old school record by .25 inches.
Cameron Johnson cracked the top 10 with his first place finish in the long jump at the NSU Open. His first-place jump of 23-01.75 is good for eighth place all-time at SDSU.
The Jacks return to action Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. for their last track meet before the Summit League Championships.
