The regular season comes to an end this week as South Dakota State closes the home portion of their schedule with games against Western Illinois on Thursday and IUPUI on Saturday in the Corduroy Classic, when the Jacks honor seniors Garrett Callahan, Mark Engen and Kai Williams.
The Jackrabbits enter the week riding a three-game losing streak after suffering their first road sweep of the season last weekend at the hands of Oakland and IPFW.
Just like they always do, the Jacks played Oakland tough on Thursday night, but the Golden Grizzlies hung on to secure at least a share of The Summit League regular season title with an 88-83 win. Six Jackrabbits scored in double figures in the game, led by Kai Williams and Garrett Callahan, who scored both finished with 16 points. Michael Palarca and Nate Wolters both scored 12 points, while Anthony Cordova and Clint Sargent both scored 11 points in the loss.
SDSU trailed by 23 points midway through the second half of Saturday's matinee against IPFW, and even though the Jackrabbits battled back to make it a three-point game with 23 seconds to play, they eventually fell by the score of 78-72.
Williams led four Jackrabbits in double figures with 16 points, Callahan scored 13 points, while Nate Wolters and Sargent both scored 11 points in the loss.
Sargent leads the Jackrabbit offense with 12.7 points per game, he also leads the team with a 43.4 percent three-point field goal percentage and an 86.5 free throw percentage. Callahan averages 12.2 points per game, Williams adds 10.7 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game, while Wolters scores 10.0 points per game and leads the team with 78 assists.

CALLAHAN CLIMBING THE CHARTS - Garrett Callahan joined the SDSU 1,000-Point Club on Feb. 12, 2009, and continues his climb up the all-time scoring charts. Callahan cracked the top-10 in the Jacks win over Southern Utah on Feb. 4, and enters this week sixth on the all-time list at SDSU with 1,421 points.
More than just a scorer, Callahan entered the top-10 in assists on Feb. 6, against UMKC and enters the week 10th all-time at SDSU with 242 assists.
WILLIAMS MAKES HIS MARK - Kai Williams completed an old fashioned three-point play in overtime against Oakland on Jan. 31, 2009, to become the 39th member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club and the first to score all of his points at the Division I level. Now a senior, Williams enters the week ranked 10th all-time with 1,381 points, but needs just 19 points this week to move up to seventh on the list.
In addition to his climb up the SDSU scoring charts, Williams also rebounded his way into the top-five in career-rebounds. He led the Jacks in rebounding in each of his first three years on the team and enters the week ranked third on the all-time list with 818 rebounds.
SARGENT CLOSES IN ON 1,000 POINTS - Junior Clint Sargent continues to close in on the 1,000-point milestone. His team-high 343 points so far this season gives him 995 career-points, five points shy of joining the club.
WOLTERS TIES FREE THROW RECORD - Freshman Nate Wolters tied the SDSU single game free-throw percentage record when he went 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the Jacks win over UMKC last week. Wolters tied the record first set by Jim Sutton in a win over St. Thomas (Minn.) on Dec. 17, 1956 and equaled by Garrett Callahan in a win over Southern Utah on Feb. 12, 2009.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
WIU Fighting Leathernecks (13-14, 6-10 Summit, 5-7 Away) - Once in danger of not making the eight team field for next week's Summit League Championships, the Leathernecks enter the week riding a four game winning streak, which includes a weekend road sweep at Oral Roberts and Centenary and a home sweep last week over Southern Utah and UMKC.
