FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW starting pitcher Courtney Cronin set a Mastodon record by striking out 12 South Dakota State batters in the Mastodons 5-0 win over the Jackrabbits in the rubber game of the three game Summit League series.
The Jacks fall to 10-25 overall with the loss, 4-5 in The Summit League, IPFW improves to 22-11 overall, 13-2 in league play.
Cronin scattered three hits in the complete game win, including two by Ashley Durazo, a double and a single, and one by Greta Stroh.
IPFW plated the only run it would need in the second inning, but added two runs each in the third and sixth innings for the final 5-0 total.
Kori Seidlitz started for the Jacks in the circle and took the loss. She gave up six hits and three runs over three innings with one strikeout and no walks. Pam Nicholson gave up four hits and two runs in three innings pitched with three strikeouts and no walks.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Sunday, when the play a makeup game at Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., at 3 p.m.
