MADISON, Wis. - The South Dakota State softball team came up on the short end of its makeup game with Wisconsin on Sunday, falling to the Badgers by the score of 11-2.
The loss drops the Jacks to 10-26 on the season, the Badgers improve to 10-22 with win.
Wisconsin got on the board with single runs in the first and third innings and then pushed the lead to 6-0 with four runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batsman in the fourth inning.
The Jacks got on the board in the top of the fifth thanks to a single, a wild pitch and a flurry of illegal pitches, all with two outs to cut the lead to 6-2.
Both teams went scoreless in their next at bats, but the Badgers scored five runs in the sixth, including a two-run Ashley Hanewich homerun that ended the game due to the eight run rule.
Kori Seidlitz got the start for the Jacks and gave up two runs on five hits in three innings and took the loss.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Thursday, when they renew their rivalry with South Dakota. The doubleheader versus the Coyotes begins at 3 p.m.
