The Jackrabbit men returns home for the first time in 2011 this week with Summit League games against Centenary an Oral Roberts on the Slate. The Jacks and Gents tip-off on Thursday at 7 p.m., while the Jacks and Golden Eagles get started at 7:30 p.m., following the SDSU vs. ORU women's game at 5 p.m.
Thursday's game brings the Jacks home after their longest road trip of the season, a five game trip that saw the Jacks go 3-2, with a win at Central Michigan and Summit League wins at UMKC and Southern Utah last weekend. SDSU plays its first home game Thursday since the Jacks season-long seven game home stand ended on Dec. 11, in a loss against UW-Milwaukee.
Nate Wolters came up one assist shy of his second career double-double, but he scored 29 points and got plenty of help from Clint Sargent and his 23 points in a 105-95 win over Southern Utah in the Jacks last outing on Saturday in Cedar City, Utah.
The Jackrabbits, who improved to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in The Summit League with the road sweep, topped the century mark for the first time at the Division I level, and the first time since a 107-104 loss to Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 4, 2004.
In addition to Wolters and Sargent, three other Jackrabbits scored in double figures in the win. Jordan Dykstra scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, Chad White finished with 10 points and Tony Fiegen added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Wolters leads the Jackrabbit offense through 14 games with 19.2 points per game, with 85 assists and with 21 steals. Sargent averages 15.9 points per game and adds 3.2 rebounds. White averages 10.1 points per game, with 4.5 rebounds and a team-high 12 blocks, while Griffan Callahan adds 9.3 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game. Callahan also leads the nation with a .973 free throw percentage, with just one miss in 37 shots from the charity stripe.
JACKS RECEIVING VOTES MID-MAJOR TOP 25 - For the first time in its short Division I history, the South Dakota State men's basketball team cracked the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, when the Jackrabbits debuted at No. 25 in the poll released on Nov. 22.
A week after debuting in the poll, the Jacks jumped eight spots to No. 17, where they remained for two weeks, but fell one spot in the poll released on Dec. 13, to No. 18, and then out of the poll to receiving votes in the poll released on Dec. 20 and on Dec. 27 and Jan. 3.
JACKRABBITS AMONG THE NATION'S BEST - The Jackrabbits enter the week ranked 14th in the nation with 11.1 turnovers per game and with a .411 three-point field goal percentage. SDSU also enters the week ranked 15th with a 4.9 turnover margin and 19th in scoring offense with 80.6 points per game.
Individually, Griffan Callahan's leads the nation with a .973 free throw percentage, while Nate Wolters ranks 18th in the nation with 6.1 assists per game.
CALLAHAN LEADS THE NATION - After starting the season with a perfect 28-for-28 mark from the charity stripe, Griffan Callahan finally missed a shot from the free throw line with a 1-for-2 effort at Western Michigan on Dec. 18. He responded by going 7-for-7 over the last four games and enters the week leading the nation with a .973 free throw percentage.
CLIMBING THE 1,000 POINT CLUB LADDER - Jackrabbit Senior Clint Sargent became the 41st member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club on Feb. 25, 2010, in the Jacks 66-53 win over Western Illinois in Frost Arena.
Sargent started the season tied for 33rd on the all-time list with 1,035 points, but enters the week ranked 18th all-time with 1,258 points, one point shy of 17th all-time at SDSU and 15 points shy of moving up two spots to 16th all-time.
NAGY RAISING MONEY FOR HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORTS - Head coach Scott Nagy teamed up with Samaritan's Feet in each of the last two seasons to raise money and shoes for children in Haiti, a cause that really hits home for Nagy and his family, especially after a major earthquake shook the country on Jan. 12, 2010.
Already scheduled to coach in his bare feet on Jan. 23, 2010, against Oakland to raise money and shoes, the devastation in Haiti caused Nagy to shift his focus from shoes to earthquake relief, which worked to the tune of over $6,000.
Jackrabbit fans can play their part again in 2011, when Nagy coaches barefoot when the Jacks host IPFW on Jan. 22, in Frost Arena. Anyone interested in donating can simply text SHOES to 85944, which automatically adds $5 to your next phone bill. Donations from the 605 area code go specifically to help Nagy's cause.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
Centenary Gents (0-15, 0-4 Summit) - Playing in their final season in The Summit League, and for the final time at Frost Arena, Centenary makes the move to Division III next season.
Still winless in 15 tries this season, the Gents enter tonight's game riding a 20 game losing streak, dating back to last season, with their last win coming on Feb. 6, 2010, an 80-78 triumph at IPFW.
The only player on the team to average at least 10 points, Maxx Nakwaasah leads the Centenary offense with 10.5 points to go along with his 5.5 rebounds per game. Jeron Trotman averages 8.6 points to go along with his team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.
The Series vs. Centenary - Series tied 3-3 after the Jackrabbits swept the season series in 2009-10, an 89-59 win on Jan. 2, in Frost Arena and an 81-75 win on Jan. 28, in Shreveport, La. The Gent's last win over the Jacks came on Feb. 28, 2009 at the Gold Dome on the Centenary campus.
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (5-11, 2-2 Summit) - The Golden Eagles, who played at North Dakota State on Thursday, entered the week riding a three game losing streak after dropping a pair of league games at home last week to IPFW and Oakland, and a non-conference affair at Akron on Monday.
Losers of seven of their last eight games, the Golden Eagles opened Summit League play with wins at Western Illinois on Dec. 2, and at IUPUI on Dec. 4.
Dominique Morrison entered the week leading the ORU offense with 18.4 points per game and ranked second on the team with 35 assists, but a knee injury sidelined him for at least this weekend's games.
Three other Golden Eagles entered the week averaging double figures in scoring, including Steven Roundtree with 12.8 points, Damen Bell-Holter with 12.6 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game and Warren Niles with 12.3 points. Roundtree entered the week ranked second on the team with 6.6 rebounds per game, while Roderick Pearson came in leading ORU with 38 assists.
The Series vs. Oral Roberts - The Golden eagles lead the all-time series 5-3 after the teams split the season series in 2009-10 with each team winning on its home floor.
NEXT UP FOR THE JACKRABBITS - The Jackrabbits return to the road next week with Summit League games at Western Illinois on Thursday at 7 p.m., and at IUPUI on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
