The South Dakota State equestrian team tied No. 6 ranked SMU in points at 9-9, but, but won the tiebreaker against the Mustangs by a 1,508.5-1,495.5 margin to secure the victory.
The Jackrabbits improve to 3-4 with the win, while the visiting Mustangs, who beat New Mexico State earlier in the day, falls to 4-3.
“We came back today focused and hungry for a win. I'm so proud of our performances across the board in every event, the girls really stepped up their game from yesterday and last weekend,” head coach Megan Rossiter said. “This is a step in the right direction that sets us up to finish our fall season strong.”
True freshman Mariah Wright tied an SDSU single-season record with her third MOP of the season in reining, scoring a season-high score of 72 to improve her record to 5-0-1. Senior Danielle Baker picked up her first win of the season in reining with a 70.5. Sophomore Christina Dexter evened her reining record at 2-2 with a score of 68.5.
Sophomore Victoria Johnson picked up the Jacks lone win in horsemanship, carding a 71 to boost her record to 4-3.
Senior Jordan Goodall led the SDSU hunt seat riders on the flat in earning first-career MOP. She scored an 81 to even her flat record to 3-3. Maddie Lewis scored a 74 for her first-career win on the flat.
SDSU took three of the five points over fences, with junior Marielle Golden leading the way with a career-high score of 82 to improve to 2-4 on the season. Freshman Taylor Duerr's 74 evens her record at 3-3, while sophomore Jessica Andronowitz moves to 4-2 with a score of 68.
SDSU gets a couple of weeks off before closing the fall season on Nov. 14-15 in Dover, Del., with meets against UT-Martin and Delaware State on the schedule.
