BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — Juliana Gullo earned Most Outstanding Performer honors in both jumping seat events to lead South Dakota State to a 9-6 victory over Delaware State in a head-to-head equestrian competition that concluded Saturday at One Wood Farm.

The 10th-ranked Jackrabbits completed the regular season with a 5-7 overall record, including a 5-3 mark against ECAC opponents.

SDSU and the Hornets entered Saturday tied at 4-all, but the Jackrabbits took control of the competition by sweeping all four points in the fences category. Gullo led the way by winning her matchup against Kaylynn Berry, 81-76, and Heidi White and Isabelle Malick each posted winning scores of 73 in their matchups. Sarah Gould completed the sweep with a 68-67 victory over Melisa Acker.

A senior from Itasca, Illinois, Gullo also captured MOP honors in flat with a top score of 71 as SDSU claimed three of the four available points in the event. White (69) and Malick (62) also were winners for the Jackrabbits.

SDSU closed out the competition by earning one point each in horsemanship and reining. Avery Bergan picked up the horsemanship point with a score of 71.5 while Maryn Mead tallied a score of 68.5 in reining to win her matchup against Estella Estus.

Emma Riggs tied in her reining matchup against Claire Andrews with a score of 70, while Hailey Hanson and Grace Gerbus each suffered half-point defeats in their horsemanship matchups.

UP NEXT
South Dakota State will compete in the ECAC Championship March 26-28 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, Delaware. Pairings for the competition will be announced next week.
