Two Jackrabbits scored their first-career point and another earned her first-career MOP, but the South Dakota State equestrian team came up on the short end in an 11-8 loss to Kansas State on Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
The loss drops the Jacks to 0-2, while the Wildcats improve to 1-0.
“We had some good rides but were not as strong as we needed to be across the board,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. “We can learn from our mistakes and then turn our focus and energy on our upcoming meet against Minnesota-Crookston.”
Junior Nicole Siebold scored a 71.5 in horsemanship for her first-career win, and the team's lone win in the event. Fellow junior Nicole Harvey won her first-career point in reining with a 70.5, as the Jackrabbits took three of the five points, the other two coming from former All-Americans Mariah Wright and Raivenne Scott, who increased her school-record for wins to 24 and earned her second straight MOP with a score of 72. Wright scored a 70 in earning her point.
SDSU also won three points on the flat, with Marielle Golden, Taylor Duerr and Natalie Howard all winning points, with Howard adding her first-career MOP award with a score of 78. Golden and Duerr both carded scores of 76.
Golden's win on the flat pushes her SDSU school record to 15 for her career. She also won SDSU's lont point of the day over fences with a score of 82.
SDSU gets a couple of weeks off before returning to action at home on Oct. 16 against Minnesota-Crookston at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
