VERMILLION – Kristin Erf swept the breaststroke events and Olivia Olesiak set a school record in 3-meter diving, but the South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team came up on the short end of a dual Wednesday afternoon at the University of South Dakota.
The Coyotes won 12 of 16 events en route to a 182-118 victory. SDSU dropped to 0-4 in duals this season.
A sophomore from Oakdale, Minnesota, Erf led a 1-2 Jackrabbit finish in the two breaststroke events, winning the 100-meter race in 1 minute, 14.19 seconds and the 200-meter event in 2:42.67. Kayce Smith was runner-up in both events with respective times of 1:15.31 and 2:45.82, and added a third second-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:29.77. Erf placed third in the 200 IM at 2:32.49.
Erf and Smith also teamed with Sam Prasher and Abby Zenner for a meet-opening victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:01.19.
Olesiak, a senior from Wyoming, Minnesota, set her second school record of the season with a score of 274.73 points on the 3-meter board. She broke the previous mark of 266.10 by Erin Eagen in 2011. Olesiak finished second in the 3-meter competition and added a runner-up finish in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 238.95.
Cassie Hendricks rounded out the individual victories for the Jackrabbits by winning the 200 backstroke in 2:22.90.
The Jackrabbits return to action Nov. 20 with a home dual against North Dakota.
