The South Dakota State equestrian teamed defeated No. 8 South Carolina, 15-4 on Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

SDSU improved to 1-2, while USC dropped to 0-2 on the season.

"Today was a solid day," head coach
Ellie Wilkins said. "We had a lot of good rides, but there were a few mistakes that we can improve upon. South Carolina was a tough opponent, they displayed great sportsmanship and were very helpful throughout the whole meet.  We are looking forward to getting back to work to get ready for our meet next Saturday."

In Equitation over Fences, sophomore
Claire Garduno captured the first point for the Jacks with a 76-72 victory over Lizzie van der Walde. Senior
Taylor Duerr defeated Madison Sellman, 69-65 and
Jacey Chorlton topped Chloe Schmidt, 83-80.

The Jacks won Equitation on the Flat 3-2. Chorlton topped Lauren Fabiano, 86-85, while Duerr upended Chloe Schmidt, 83-79.
Matilyn Skinner rounded out the victory with an 82-78 win over Lizzie van der Walde.

On the Western side, SDSU defeated USC 4-0 in Horsemanship.
Whitney Vesey upended Quinn Brandt, 70.5-69.5, while
Mariah Wright won her first point in the discipline with a 74-72.5 win over Megan Overberg. Senior
Nichole Zazula claimed her first win with a 74 en route to claiming MOP honors and
Jordan Gates won with a 73.
Rylee Streit tied her point with a 72.

In Reining, the Jacks swept the Gamecocks, 5-0.
Miranda Sullivan captured the first point with a 72-71 victory over Paisley Roberts en route to garnering MOP accolades.
Madison Sullivan defeated Jordan Scott, 69.5-68.5, while
Mariah Wright upended Carolina Gute, 67.5-65. Senior
Catelyn Hall claimed her second point of the season with a 71.5-69 victory over Bailey Walters.
Jordan Gates rounded out the sweep with a 66 on Aggie.
