LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Mike Daum posted his third double-double of the season, but a hot-shooting, nationally-ranking Kansas Jayhawk team dealt the South Dakota State Jackrabbits a 98-64 loss Friday at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.
SDSU (3-1) out-rebounded the Jayhawks, 41-32, but Kansas (3-0) shot 60.7 percent from the field with 13 3-pointers compared to the Jackrabbits' 32.8 field goal percentage.
Daum led the way for State with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Tevin King just missed a double-double of his own, finishing with 12 points and eight boards.
Brandon Key had six assists from the point guard slot.
Kansas had four in double digits, led by Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk's 27 points.
State fell into a hole early and wasn't able to recover, trailing 17-4 at the first media break. From there, the Jackrabbits cut the deficit to eight (20-12) near the 13-minute mark thanks to an 8-0 run, but that was as close as the team came the rest of the way.
Down 57-28 at the break, SDSU did not quit and trailed by only five in scoring margin for the second half, thanks in part to three 3-pointers from Daum and six points in the period from King and Howell.
