The South Dakota State track and field program sets its sights on the 2017 Summit League Championships this weekend, traveling to Fargo, North Dakota for the three-day meet, May 11-13 at Schlanser Track at the Ellig Sports Complex.

The meet begins Thursday with field events beginning at 10 a.m., and the heptathlon and pentathlon getting underway at 11 a.m. The lone track events for the day are the women's and men's 10,000 meter runs, set for 7 and 7:45 p.m., respectively.

Friday marks the finish of the multi events at 11 a.m., followed by field events beginning at 3 p.m., and races beginning at 4:30 pm.Â

Saturday begins at 11 a.m., with the discus throw and triple jump, and track events get underway at 12:20 p.m., with the 4x100 meter relay women's final.

On the Season
20 Jackrabbit women rank in the Top 5 on The Summit League performance list entering the weekend, including three league leaders.

- Emily Donnay holds the fastest time at 1,500 meters (4:26.95), posting the mark at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
- Rachel King earned the top spot in the 5,000 meter race with her time of 16:16.48 at the Drake Relays.
- Monique Mack recorded a personal best jump of 5-10.00 at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays last weekend and was named The Summit League's Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week on May 9.

On the men's side, 29 Jackrabbit student-athletes rank amongst the Top 5 of The Summit League's performance chart as the year-end championship begins, including five league leaders.

- Alejandro Sanchez's mark of 1:49.30 in the 800 meter race at the Bryan Clay Invite has sat atop the charts since April 13.
- Kyle Burdick holds the fastest time in the 1,500 meter run, posting a time of 3:42.52 at the Bryan Clay Invite.
- Joel Reichow, who was named as South Dakota State's Senior Athlete of the Year earlier this month, holds the top times at the men's 5,000 and 10,000 meter distances. Reichow ran a 13:53.05 in the 5,000 meter race at the Drake Relays, and at the Stanford Invitational went 10,000 meters in 28:56.24.
- Zach Koosman recorded a personal best height of 7-00.25 in the high jump at last weekend's Howard Wood Dakota Relays. He was named the Summit League's Male Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Week for his performance.
