Maiello Shines in Scrimmage Win

The South Dakota State equestrian team defeated Minnesota Crookston 11-4 in a scrimmage meet Saturday. Freshman Alexa Maiello collected two MOPs on the day, one from each Hunt Seat event.
Hunt Seat
Maiello opened the meet, earning her first MOP with a score of 84 in Equitation over Fences to defeat her Minnesota Crookston opponent. Jacey Chorlton added an 85 to push the Jacks to a 3-1 lead through Fences.
An 88 garnered Maiello her second MOP, leading the way to a Jacks 4-0 sweep in Equitation on the Flat. Claire Garduno scored an 86 and Matilyn Skinner posted a 79.
Western
The Jacks won Horsemanship 3-1 behind an MOP performance from Jordan Gates, scoring a 74. Whitney Vesey scored a 73.5 in her run to defeat Minnesota Crookston's Whitney Fenna.
Jordan Gates scored a team high 71 in Reining, but it was Caitlyn Hall who earned the Jacks lone point in the event with a 70.5 to defeat her Minnesota Crookston opponent as the Golden Eagles won Reining 2-1.
Up Next
The Jacks don't ride again until Jan. 26 when they host Texas A&M at DeHaan Equestrian Center.
