The South Dakota State equestrian team fell to No. 4 Texas A&M 14-5 Saturday to drop their record to 1-2. The Aggies improved their record to 5-2.
Western riders Whitney Vesey and Catelyn Hall each tied career-high scores in the meet, while four riders scored season-highs.
The Jacks opened with season-best scoring rides from Jessica Martinez (82) and Jacey Chorlton (85) in Equitation over Fences, but the Aggies came out on top to win the event 3-2. Chorlton earned one point for SDSU, and Claire Garduno earned the team's other point with a score of 80.
In Horsemanship, Vesey tied her career-high with a score of 75, but it was Rylee Streit who earned SDSU's lone point in the event with a score of 70. The Aggies won Horsemanship 4-1 to push their lead to 7-3.
Texas A&M blanked the Jacks 4-0 in Equitation on the Flat and Martinez scored a season-high 80 to push a tie with her opponent. That put the Aggie lead at 11-3 heading into the final event.
In Reining, Hall tied her career-high with her score of 72 and Amelia Nelson scored a 70.5 to each earn the Jacks a point in the final event. But the Aggies earned three points to take the event, and ultimately the meet.
Up Next
The team will travel to Auburn, AL to face Auburn and UT Martin Feb. 9. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
