AZUSA, Calif. - The South Dakota State track and field team concluded their second 2018 trek out in California on Friday. After the dust settled, the Jackrabbits totaled 27 personal-best marks and seven top three finishes.

Over the course of the weekend, the SDSU student-athletes competed in three meets: Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, and the Mt. SAC Relays.

Friday - Day 2
On Friday, the State runners recorded 11Â personal-best marks and one top-three finishes.
Â
Highlighting the final day of Bryan Clay Invite competition was junior
Rachel King, who recorded her personal-best mark in the 1,500m race. She beat her previous-best by 3.75 seconds and has the school's second-fastest mark all-time.

Fellow teammate, sophomore
Kendra Dykstra also recorded a personal-best time in the 1,500m, beating her previous-best mark by 7.32 seconds and earning the fourth-best mark in school history.

Mason Leiseth could not stop throwing huge marks and PR's in California. He set a personal-best in both the shot put and discus throw on Thursday afternoon at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, which were both in the school's top 10.

Friday, he adds another 1-02.25 feet to her best throw in the shot put and moves up to second on the school's top 10. Then he throws a big throw in the discus, not quite better than his PR he set yesterday, but would have been a PR if it was his only throw of the weekend.

Krista Steele ran her personal-best time in the 800m, her second time resetting her outdoor personal-best in the event out of three attempts. Steele's time is good enough to bump her into second on the school's all-time list.

Kasie Vollmer was the lone Jackrabbit to finish in the top-three on Friday. Her toss in the discus throw is a season-best mark and she's closing in on her PR, which is the school record.

Then she recorded a season-best mark by 2.75 inches in her third attempt at the high jump (5-01.75). The height is 1.25 inches short of her outdoor and overall PR.

Lane set her second career-best outdoor mark in the shot put (41-07.00), beating her previous-best from the 2017 outdoor league championships by four inches. It's her best mark in the event during 2018 so far.

Evan Hieber sat in eighth place (3,287) out of 14 competitors after day one of competition at Cougar Stadium.

He started off the competition with his first 100m dash of the season, second in his career. His time (11.95) was just 0.05 seconds away from personal-best mark (11.90 at the 2017 Lyle Hokanson Classic).

Later in the afternoon, Hieber recorded a second-place finish (41-01.75) in the shot put with an outdoor PR. It was his first shot put attempt this outdoor season, beating his previous-best mark by 2.25 inches.

The Sioux Falls, S.D. native also posted his first outdoor high jump (6-01.25) of the season, just two inches from his outdoor personal-best height set in the 2017 Howard Wood Relays.
