After coming close to its first tournament title in its last outing, the South Dakota State women's golf team plays its final regular-season tournament when it travels to Missouri Sunday and Monday for the Kansas City Intercollegiate hosted by UMKC.
The 54-hole tournament begins play with a 9 a.m. shotgun start both days at the par-72, 5,927-yard Shoal Creek Golf Club. SDSU is one of nine teams in the field, which includes Summit League members North Dakota State, Omaha and South Dakota.
Last year, the Jackrabbits finished third with three players placing in the top 10. Sophomore
Teresa Toscano led the team, tying for sixth among 61 golfers. She shot a 230 (80-75-75). Classmate
Sydney Bormann tied for 17
th (81-78-78=237).
Bormann captured the Lady Thunderbird Invitational in the Jackrabbits last outing March 15-16. She shot a career-tying low 144 (71-73) on the par-72, 6,050-yard Sunbrook Golf Course. SDSU finished second, firing a 600 (299-301).
For the season, Toscano leads State with a 73.60 stroke average and ranks fourth in The Summit League. She also has a pair of top-10 finishes and seven rounds at or below par.
Freshman
Cassidy Laidlaw is second with a 75.73 stroke average and Bormann is third (75.88).
South Dakota State has a 302.0 stroke average, ranking second in the league.
